Hack the Brain to Add New Senses

Description

In the future it may be possible to hack the brain and gain new senses. Some examples of this include; ‘The Versatile Extra-Sensory Transducer (VEST) which translates sounds into vibrations. With training, a hearing-impaired person can use it to perceive sound through feeling the vibrations. Researchers from the University of Wisconsin  have found a way for the blind to “see” via electrical pulses delivered to a plate on their tongue. Very interestingly, artist Neil Harbisson could see, but was color blind. He implanted an antenna in his skull that translates colors into audible vibrations. It resulted in a form of synesthesia, which he claims allows him to “hear” colors. The tech also allows him to experience light not visible to the human eye, which is another area of research yielding promising results (Javelosa, 2016).’
